Stephen C. Hall Building The home of Georgia Tech’s Writing and Communication Program is located in the Stephen C. Hall Building, whose renovation was designed by the architectural firm Smith Dalia, in a two-year consultation with program director, Rebecca Burnett. The Hall Building, which has a LEED Gold certification, includes, among other things, two demonstration classrooms, a large commons area for speakers and screenings, offices for 18 of the 37 Brittain Postdoctoral Fellows and the program’s leadership, DevLab, a recording booth, a seminar room, a mother’s room, and a terrace. In 2011-12, this 1924 building was gutted and renovated from the ground to the roof. Pictured to the left are Col. Stephen C. DevLab The Development Lab (DevLab) is the Writing and Communication Program’s version of an R&D lab. The program opened DevLab for program faculty in 2009 as part of the 2007 hiring agreement Rebecca Burnett negotiated when she came to Georgia Tech. This space provides computers, scanners, printers, and cinema displays for innovative digital pedagogy and the scholarship of teaching and learning. DevLab includes individual and collaborative workspaces with hightech equipment, In addition, DevLab offers bootcamp sessions and workshops to Writing and Communication Program and LMC faculty. Communication Center Georgia Tech’s Communication Center is located in the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, which has a LEED Platinum certification. The design for Communication Center was created by the Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Architects, in a five-year consultation with WCP Director, Rebecca Burnett. The Communication Center, now fully the responsibility of Communication Center Director Karen Head, includes individual and group tutoring spaces, planning spaces, SmartBoard work area, small group meetings rooms, a computer lab, offices for the center’s leadership, a workshop room, four separate presentation rehearsal studios, and a storage area. The photo shows part of the tutoring space and access to the administrative offices.
